Cabinet approves Rs 10,000 cr. for Gaganyaan mission: will include 3 astronauts for 7 days

Cabinet approved Rs. 10,000 crore for the indeginious human space mission Gaganyaan on Friday. Gaganyaan program will carry 3 member crew for minimum 7 days in space, as per the tweet by ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the Isro’s human space mission ‘Gaganyaan’ on 15th August this year scheduled to be in 2022, which coincides with  nation’s  75 years of freedom. Thus celebrating Diamond jubilee.

Indian Space Research Organisation had already inked agreements with Russia and France for assistance in the ambitious project. The human-rated GSLV MK-IIl will be used to carry the orbital module which will have necessary provisions for sustaining a three member crew for the duration of the mission.

The crew member for Isro’s Gaganyaan mission will be selected by the Indian Air Force (IAF). ISRO chairman K Sivan had said in August that the six candidates will be shortlisted finally after rigorous training out of which three candidates will be selected to be the part of first Gaganyaan mission. IAF will fully control the selection process and Isro will augment them if required.
